HEARTLAND HUMAN CARE SERVICES ANNOUNCES TRANSITION TO INDEPENDENCE

Organization launches as independent nonprofit, continuing its mission serving displaced and vulnerable populations

Chicago, IL - Heartland Human Care Services (HHCS), a nonprofit dedicated to serving individuals facing poverty, displacement, and injustice, has announced its transition to an independent organization. This milestone marks a new chapter for HHCS as it separates from Heartland Alliance to continue its vital work in supportive housing, immigrant services, and workforce development efforts under a new organizational structure.

Tracing its roots to 1888, helping travelers and migrants in distress, HHCS has been at the forefront of providing essential services and support to marginalized communities. This independence comes as part of a strategic restructuring process aimed at ensuring the sustainability and ongoing impact of Heartland Alliance’s subsidiaries. The organization’s mission remains the same, with no interruption to its work, programs or services.

"We are excited to move forward in this pivotal moment in HHCS’ journey," says David Sinski, Executive Director of Heartland Human Care Services. "This transition signifies a new era of growth and opportunity for our organization, and I want to express my gratitude to our staff, board members, donors, and community partners who have all played a vital role in helping us get to where we are today as an independent nonprofit. Together, we will continue to uphold our mission of achieving safety and stability for vulnerable populations.”

Looking to the future, HHCS is positioned as a robust and financially stable organization, ready to embrace new opportunities for innovation and deeper levels of engagement under its expanded board leadership. This transition also presents an exciting opportunity for growth and to expand HHCS's reputation as a human rights leader, further amplifying its impact on the communities it serves.

"HHCS is entering an exciting new chapter in its journey as we transition to independence," says Becky J. Frederick, Board Chair of Heartland Human Care Services. "This strategic move underscores both the organization’s and the Board’s dedication to maintaining the seamless provision of our programs and services, and we are thrilled for HHCS to assume direct responsibility for its operations, governance, and fiscal management. As we look ahead, our board is deeply committed to helping guide HHCS towards new opportunities for growth, innovation, and increased community engagement.”

As an independent nonprofit with an expanded board of directors, HHCS will continue to focus on the organization’s decades-long mission, its committed and talented staff, and the diverse communities it serves. In addition to Becky J. Frederick, board members include Carrie Sussman, Alicia Gonzalez, Andrea Ingram and Dr. Nataka Moore.
